Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research is to review decision-making theory and scientific approaches used in business which are or can equally be applied to the field of quality assurance. A brief discussion is presented covering the development of scientific decision-making in business with the understanding that many of these same principles apply to quality assurance.; The research of the literature in the fields of business statistics, management science, and quality science revealed that the laws and principles of statistics and probability are the foundation for many of the scientific approaches used for decision making. Five scientific approaches were reviewed in this research, which include (1) Bayesian Theorem and Analysis, (2) Linear Programming, (3) Decision Tree Analysis, (4) Chi Square Analysis, and (5) Theory of Variation. Of the five, the Theory of Variation has the potential to further enhance the quantitative tools used in decision making for business operations.
