Using test scores from Woodrow Wilson Junior High School in Hanford, California, this study examines how math student achievement is linked with standards-based education. Student standards, teacher standards, teacher qualifications, assessment and accountability, are a few of the factors that will be discussed. Two hundred and nine subjects were selected. SAT-9 mathematic scores were compared for the years 2000--2001. The findings of the quantitative analyses suggest that Hanford Elementary School District's eighth grade mathematic standards may be appropriate for student success. Furthermore, the study suggests other factors such as teacher education programs and professional development may make an important difference in overall student achievement. |
