An analysis of corporate sport sponsorships in Bahrain

Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of the study was to analyze corporate sport sponsorship in Bahrain from 1995 to 2000. Seven research questions were formulated by the investigator. The subjects in the sample of the study consisted of individuals from seventy-seven corporations who had sponsored sport activities in Bahrain from 1995 to 2000. A total of 77 (86.5%) questionnaires were returned from the 89 that had been sent.;The results of the study were obtained from the survey data. The survey instrument was divided into six categories: (1) type of corporations that sponsored sport activities, (2) type of sport activities sponsored by corporations, (3) corporate goals and motives, (4) methods used to support sport sponsorship, (5) evaluation the effectiveness of sport sponsorship programs, and (6) future corporate intentions.;Corporations in the services and goods industry were the most important sources that support sport activities in Bahrain during the study period. Almost half of the corporations operate their business in the national market and the rest operate their business in the international market. Most of the sponsors have been in business in Bahrain for over 15 years. Over two-thirds of the corporations had been sponsoring sport in Bahrain during the last 10 years.;Event sponsorship appeared to be the most popular type of sponsorship activity. Advanced sport levels were preferred by most of the sponsors. Soccer, volleyball, golf, bowling, tennis, and horse racing were the most popular type of sports that were sponsored by the corporations during the study period.
