Abstract/Summary:
This thesis sought opinions of stakeholders in higher education in Bangladesh through questionnaire and interviews. Chapter-one sets the context of the research and research objectives. The main objective was to analyse access opportunity in higher education in Bangladesh. Chapter-two analysed access opportunities, gender, student politics and funding. Chapter-three analysed education systems, alternative mode of higher education, government's supervision and vice chancellors' association. Chapter-four developed higher education ideology and analysed public and private universities in Bangladesh in terms of size, demand, skill training and language learning. Chapter-five presented the empirical data from questionnaire and interviews to identify the problems and challenges for higher education in Bangladesh. Chapter-six analysed the data obtained from surveys to review the higher education situations of Bangladesh and a comparative study is made. Chapter-seven raised the important issues for the development of higher education in Bangladesh and recommendations are made for the policy makers in the ministry of education in Bangladesh, for the officials at the University Grants Commission and for the university administrators.
