Abstract/Summary:
This action research project explored the effects of iPad implementation with the phonics app, Cimo Can Spell. Reading fluency, reading accuracy, and time on task was analyzed for students in 3rd and 4th grade with learning disabilities. Data was collected with AIMSweb curriculum based measures, Reading A-Z probes, and recorded readings for fluency and accuracy. Time on task data was collected with the use of interval recording observation checklists. In addition to the checklists, students learned to self-monitor and the self-monitoring checklists were used for comparison. The intervention took place in a resource room setting and was an addition to the core reading instruction. There was a three-week baseline period for data collection followed by ten weeks of the intervention, IPad instruction. The intervention was withdrawn when trends were established. Results showed an increase in fluency scores and time on task, accuracy was inconsistent through the intervention.
