Mobile IP (MIP) is proposed to supports the mobility of IP hosts, from network to network, without changing their IP address. The goal of Mobile IP is to let an IP host continually receive IP packets sent to its IP address, keep the undergoing IP connections and make the movement of IP hosts transparent up to transport layer protocols and applications. Due to the differences between IPv4 and IPv6, IETF defines separate protocol standards and system structures for Mobile IPv4 and Mobile IPv6. Mobile IPv6 is currently a work in process and needs to be validated over different Operation Systems and network environments. The implementation of Mobile IP is substantially dependent on the Operating System (OS) that is used by an IP host. Even with the same OS, the approaches of implementation can be substantially different.; The thesis focuses on the implementation of Mobile IPv6 over Linux. Its goal is to verify and provide feedback for the current IETF proposal of Mobile IPv6. This thesis attempts one of the approaches of Mobile IPv6 implementation over Linux. In this approach, part of the implementation code stays in the Linux kernel space. The remaining code stays in the Linux application space. The system partially implements the Mobile IPv6 functionality. During the implementation, the author also met some issues about the network programming over Linux, such as the data exchange between the kernel and application space. This thesis discusses approaches and solutions for these issues. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Mobile IP, Mobile ipv6, Implementation, IP hosts, Over | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
