Abstract/Summary:
In 1980, the mobile cellular era started. Mobile communications have undergone significant changes and experienced enormous growth since then. During the 1990s, wideband CDMA techniques with a bandwidth of 5 MHz or more have been studied intensively throughout the world, and several trial systems have been built and tested.; This thesis investigated the latest 3G/1X wideband CDMA wireless technology. The 3G/1X is the first stage of deploying the wideband CDMA or the 3G technology in the US. This investigation included the study of all type of RF (Radio Frequency) related issues. The study included both voice and data wireless application. The RF study included spectrum requirements, Link budget, capacity planning, frequency planning, traffic theory and resource managements. Also, I proposed two different algorithms of implementing this new system (3G/1x) over an existing (2G CDMA IS-95) system. The proposed algorithms were analyzed and compare with each other.
