Abstract/Summary:
Current sociological literature does not provide an explanation for organizational behaviour in the context of corporate social responsibility and stakeholder relations. Existing business and management literature provides stakeholder models that are essentially atheoretical in nature. This case study is intended to serve as preliminary research to assist in developing sociological theory of stakeholder relations. While it is informed by open systems perspective and contingency theory, the goal of this research is to develop grounded theory based on data collected in interviews with managers and stakeholders. Basic and applied research objectives are combined by: (1) advancing a theoretical understanding of how and why stakeholder relations are maintained, and (2) providing recommendations for perpetuating social responsibility in business.
