Abstract/Summary:
This thesis represents an essay in order in establish the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth, from a theoretical and empirical perspective. In this sense, we present a model of growth a la Lucas. We consider two factors, traditionally forgotten by economic analysis. The first, a specific kind of human capital---entrepreneurial human capital---need to allocate its time between production, accumulation and a non productive activity---leisure. The second, the quality of entrepreneurial network, can devote to production or to accumulation. The first one, can be identified as an individual human capital, while the second is related with capital. The second part of the work is devoted to empirical questions. We develop new entrepreneurial proxies, some stylized facts and some econometric is models in order to measure the contribution of entrepreneurial network to regional economic growth in Spain using a pooled time-series/cross section data set consisting of annual observations on each of the Spanish regions. Estimation is done by the generalized method of moments using a data set consisting of annual observations for 16 Spanish regions. The results show a big, and statistically significant, sensitivity of entrepreneurship to production.
