Abstract/Summary:
The entrepreneurs of China are very dynamic and they are contributing in a positive way towards the economic development of China. However, the entrepreneurs of China are very different when compared to the entrepreneurs in the West. Chinese entrepreneurs suffer from an unusual uncertainty and feel insecure about government policies and their position in society.;Through my empirical study in China and research, I found that the Chinese entrepreneurs are very public-spirited and are willing to contribute their genius to create a solid economic foundation for China. However, they are always pestered by the government officials, different departments and notorious tax collectors. They arbitrarily impose taxes and fees on the entrepreneurs, thus making their life miserable.;A sound political and economic environment, should help reduce the legacy of the past and cultural disdain for profit making ventures. Chinese entrepreneurs will then be able to exhibit marvelous entrepreneurial characteristics, which will be no less than those of the entrepreneurs of the West. This study discusses how history, politics, and culture play major roles in the lives of the entrepreneurs in their effort to contribute their talents towards the economic development of China by introducing new management styles, goods and services. They are thus creating jobs and circulation of funds, which were notably missing during the Maoist era. However, it should be kept in mind that in spite of the development of entrepreneurial activities in China, the government still plays a crucial role in the lives of the Chinese in shaping their behavior and culture, particularly in the market place.;The thesis of this study is that history, and the recent politics of the 1980s, all influenced by culture, have created an entrepreneurial class that is very ambiguous and fragile. This raises a very important question about the future economic development of China.
