Abstract/Summary:
The objective of this thesis was to design, analyze, build, and test a computer assisted coaxial cylinder rotational viscometer employing a stepper motor. The viscometer was designed based on the theory of Newton's Law of Viscosity and analyzed to evaluate the temperature distribution in the fluid.;The results from this research indicate a close agreement between the data in Tables 8 and 11, particularly the Gulf Harmony 90 oil.;In conclusion, it was determined that the viscometer is well suited for fluids with viscosity between 50 and 350 centipoises, for cup speeds ranging from 10 to 40 rpms.;The fabrication and assembly of the viscometer involved the cup, several bobs, and the employment and interfacing of various components with a stepper motor. After building the system it was calibrated to determine the system's constant using a fluid of known viscosity, and tested with fluids of unknown viscosities.
