Abstract/Summary:
This critical issue research is centered on one central question: how is preaching related to numerical growth in First Chinese Baptist Church? The hypothesis of the study is that biblical and relevant preaching is significant in promoting numerical growth of the American-born baby boomers and busters in the Chinese church.; The study seeks to evaluate the content and delivery of the Lord's preaching as recorded in the New Testament, the sermons of Charles Swindoll, and the preaching ministry of First Chinese Baptist Church. A sermon by the overseas-born Pastor-in-Charge and a message by an American-born pastor will be reviewed for effectiveness according to the overseas-born and American-born segments of the congregation.; The research methods include summarizing all the sermons according to a standardized set of questions, comparing sermon content, style, and results of the various preachers, utilizing sermon evaluation surveys of the two selected sermons from First Chinese Baptist Church, interviewing various listeners. The goal of the study is a model of effective biblical preaching which can help equip the contemporary preacher to better understand what makes the sermon biblical and relevant.
