Abstract/Summary:
This project proposes to apply new technologies of 3D modeling and non-invasive analysis of polychromy to a study of two ibis mummies in the Brooklyn Museum to further aid conservation and understanding of Egyptian art. Specifically, this project aims to use non-invasive UV-VIS spectrometry to generate a basic library of ancient Egyptian pigments and their identifying traits in the spectra, identify pigments on the ibis mummies, and use photogrammetry to create 3D interactive models showing the current state of these objects. The advantages of virtual heritage and scientific analysis are inherent in this project, as digital reconstruction and restoration require neither invasive methods nor complex technologies.
