he intended purpose of this study was to gain further understanding of the value placed on various criteria believed to be in the 'best interests of the child' when making child custody determinations by psychologists (N = 26) and lawyers (N = 66) in the province of Alberta. Eleven of the psychologists were male, and 15 female. Of the participating lawyers, 34 were male and 32 female. Respondents were asked to rate 77 items with respect to their importance in making child custody and access recommendations. The instrument used was the Best Interest of the Child Questionnaire (BICQ) originally developed for use in a similar study (Jameson, 1992).
