Abstract/Summary:
The foreign policy that existed between the United States and Cuba for twenty years can be characterized many different ways. It was a foreign policy that was both predictable yet unpredictable. It was a foreign policy shaped by five different U.S. presidents, each with his own political philosophy in his approach to Cuba, yet each sharing the same result. It also reflected the relentlessness of Cuba's Fidel Castro and his approach to a U.S. foreign policy that often had as its goal his removal from office.;Both countries have invested vast resources in seeking to accomplish their goals. The United States had been preoccupied since 1959 with Castro and his revolution. They have tried to limit his influence in Cuba, the Western Hemisphere and the world at large. Castro, on the other hand, has survived in spite of Washington's wishes. He has managed to solidify his position in Cuba and exert his influence throughout the world.
