Abstract/Summary:
This project used a qualitative methodology -- a case study -- as the best means to do an in-depth examination of the problem of domestic violence. Through an extensive analysis of the literature available on the issue of domestic violence, this study examines the effects of this problem on women and the response of the faith based communities. This study explores the history of domestic violence. It provides information on the status of women and the effects of class, race and gender. It explores the role of clergy in the issues of domestic violence.;The case studies explore the services available and the relationship between them. It develops the concept that faith based communities can be a source of practical support and encouragement. Case study findings suggest faith based communities, with the proper education; can be an asset to the secular communities in uncovering and providing support to victims of domestic violence.
