Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this research was to examine the effects of network security in non-censorship countries compared to countries with strong censorship. Europe, China, South Korea and the United States are examined in regards to network security and their levels of censorship if applicable. Internet censorship and its effects on violence were researched in regards to cybercrimes, terrorist's activities and network intrusions. The four aforementioned countries' governments' methods of controlling the Internet are examined along with the policies used to regulate flow of information and global Internet censorship trends are discussed.;The importance of this research is to examine the network security in countries with censorship and non-censorship, to see if there is a difference. The results are no different if the country is censored or not, network security is still a major concern. Censored countries primary concern is filtering content they deem inappropriate, not necessarily protecting the network. Even though countries have censorship, Internet users can circumvent the censorship and firewalls to obtain restricted content. Network security is of great importance and it is the responsibility of every country to develop a strategy to combat network intrusions and other cybercrimes.
