Abstract/Summary:
The goal of this exercise is to examine the relationship between (i) government defense spending, (ii) defense companies, (iii) and workers, explore cases where such spending and/or cuts have impacted workers and union membership, and to define a framework for using the military-industrial complex to Organized Labor's advantage. Addressed will be: public spending and regulation on defense, how that spending impacts workers and economies (local and national), and how the relationship between the Defense Industry and Defense Spending could be used to benefit union strength. The thematic core of this Collection of Related Papers is that defense spending is a major part of the US economy having tremendous effects on workers, and that workers can and should be able to influence spending and regulation in such a way that union jobs are protected.
