The purpose of this project was to propose a credit-based curriculum program and therapeutic transitional group for high school seniors. The literature supported that high school seniors are under a great deal of stress and that they are not sufficiently supported, academically or psychologically, by their high schools to make a successful transition into their first year of college. The proposed program recognizes the benefits of an academic credit-based program that mirrors college-level education so that students are prepared for the academic expectations and challenges of college. The credit-based program is run in conjunction with a therapeutic transitional group grounded in cognitive behavioral and Gestalt theories that gives students a constructive place to explore questions and concerns related to the transition to college, and ultimately, to reduce the rates of college drop-out.
