Abstract/Summary:
This study examines the relationship between high school students' participation in intramural and extramural activities, their developmental experiences, academic achievement, and perceived levels of stress. Participants were Grade 10 and Grade 11 students, both male and female, from a District School Board in Eastern Ontario during the 2010-2011 school year. Data were gathered using a 2-part questionnaire. Analysis of the data revealed certain notable differences between grade, gender, and the amount of perceived stress among students. This study further revealed additional differences between student's dominant activities and their developmental experiences during their participation. These findings have shown how certain activities assist youth more than others during their development.
