This is an article about theoretical and practical study of using the Piaget's cognitive-developmental theory in chemical education. It summarized the enlightened significance of the cognitive-developmental theory in education. Meanwhile, two kinds of educational conceptions that have practical values in chemical education——Activism and Constructivism. Basing these two conceptions, I have designed a new educational pattern,"Activity-Investigation", and have made some analyses and designs in new teaching, lab classes as well as reviewing lessons with this pattern. It has been studied in practice in the Sino-Canada High School in Suzhou to confirm its rationality and feasibility, and the quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the experimental results have been made. It is suggested that:(1)"Activity-Investigation"educational pattern can encourage and foster students to take active part in studying. Students can ask questions, communicate and cooperate with each other by some useful activities, such as reading, doing experiments, discussing and practicing, to construct a knowledge system actively themselves and promote the development of cognitive.(2)This educational pattern can foster students a good studying habit. For instance, they will work hard to finish assignments before classes to issue questions in class. They will ask questions and discuss actively when classes are over. They will have a good habit of doing homework or assignments seriously in time.(3) This pattern promotes and fosters students'ability in surveying, thinking, as well as discovering and analyzing. Then a good consciousness of asking questions can be formed among students. Every student will be able to learn how to build up a net of thinking in resolving problems and lab activities, so that they can improve the ability of bringing forth new ideas.(4)This pattern makes students feel the process of knowledge construction by designing, discussing and completing the whole experiments. While they are achieving knowledge and skills, they can also enjoy themselves into studying. Finally, it achieves the educational goal of combining knowledge and abilities, processes and methods, emotion and conception of values.
