Abstract/Summary:
The thesis investigates whether the interests of the business community in North America and the interests of the common good can both be forwarded through the process of tending corporate culture.;Drawing principally on the work of Michael Novak, Alasdair MacIntyre, Robert Bellah and David Hollenbach, current Christian understandings of the common good are examined. A similar inquiry is made of recent management literature, particularly that of Terrence Deal, Allan Kennedy, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Tom Peters and Richard Pascale. Comparisons are drawn between common good and corporate culture theories, finding a shared fundamental concern for the good of the whole and the good of each individual within the whole. It is suggested further that the process of tending corporate culture promotes both the interests of the common good and those of the business community.
