Three essays in regional economics

The first paper derives economic development and diversification strategies for the state of Nevada and Elko County. Quadratic portfolio model and linear target MTOAD model were used to derive various efficient economic structures from two different perspectives; (1) To minimize instability level for a given rate of economic growth, (2) To maximize the rate of economic growth for a given level of economic stability.;The last paper presents an alternative approach for estimating economic base multiplier when data does not exist for certain period of time. By testing the stability of multiplier effect, a constant change rate can be derived using available data from other period of time. (Abstract shortened with permission of author.).;The second paper incorporates expectation into the development of economic export base multiplier. This study provides statistical proof that expectation does have significant effect on the economic base multiplier for local economy.
