The recognition and research of seabed sediment is not only of great significance to resource exploration and exploitation, climatology, biology, etc.,but also plays an important role in underwater warfare, especially in mine warfare and anti mine warfare. In this paper,a expendable dynamic penetrometer is designed for the detection of seabed surface sediments. It can quickly and accurately collect and transmit the impact vibration signal generated when the equipment hits the seabed surface sediments, and then infer the types of seabed sediments.Compared with static penetration and acoustic detection,it has many advantages such as low technical complexity, short time, small equipment and low cost. The main content of this paper includes the overall design of the system, the construction of hardware platform and the compilation of related software programs. The hardware platform includes the underwater unit and the underwater unit. The design focuses on the small size, high power, low power consumption and low cost of the underwater unit. The underwater extension is the key point of the platform design. Its main functions include the collection of acceleration sensor information, data storage and underwater acoustic transmission. Its main control chip is 430 Series MCU MSP430F1611.The water extension includes signal conditioning module,analog-to-digital conversion module, digital control module and network port communication module. Its main control chip is a FPGA(ep4ce6e22c8)of Cyclone IV series. The main functions of FPGA are data acquisition control, magnification configuration and data upload through W5300 network interface. The software development of the system includes C language program of single chip microcomputer,VHDL program of FPGA and data analysis and processing program of MATLAB.Complete the joint debugging of each functional module of the hardware system. Finally, the system is tested in the laboratory and pool environment to verify the performance of the system. In the test, the underwater unit of the system can accurately collect and record the acceleration change data during the impact process, and send the underwater acoustic signal in the specified modulation form according to the design requirements;the underwater unit can collect the signal from the underwater unit. The test results show that the functions of the system are complete and the performance indexes meet the expected requirements. The successful design of the system provides the hardware and equipment support for the subsequent offshore test.
