Don Ihde's Theory Of Technological Intentionality And Its Contemporary Value

In order to explore the essence of technology,the famous contemporary American philosopher of technology,Don Ihde,broke through the thinking mode of traditional philosophy of technology,merged phenomenology and philosophy of technology,and formed his own unique post-phenomenological philosophy of technology.The well-known theory of technological intentionality has had an important influence in the field of technological philosophy.On the basis of inheriting and criticizing Husserl's theory of intentionality,Heidegger's existentialism,Merleau-Ponty's perceptual phenomenology and pragmatism,he formed his own unique style of research on philosophy of technology,And applied to the intentional analysis of specific technical artifacts.Ihde's theory of technological intentionality mainly includes four aspects: one is the presentation and interpretation of the concept of “technological intentionality”;the other is the four intentions towards people and technology in the microstructure,that is,people—technical structure analysis-embodied relationship,hermeneutic relationship,different relationship and background relationship;third is the intentional analysis of technology in the macro-structure technology-cultural structure;fourth is the intentional analysis of specific cyberspace technology.Through induction and comparison,it can be seen that its technical intention theory has distinct characteristics of focusing on empirical technology,focusing on body perception and focusing on intention-related items.Compared with previous philosophers of technology,Ide's theory of technological intentionality has a certain contemporary value,and its contemporary value is manifested in two aspects: first,in terms of theoretical value,Ihde's theory of technological intentionality broadens the research of philosophy of technology.The field,expanded new methods of research on philosophy of technology,enriched the objects of intentional theory research,and broke through the limitations of the instrumentalist view of technology.Second,in terms of practical value,Ide's theory of technical intentionality helps people establish a new understanding of technology and helps to examine people's position in the technological world.But at the same time,Ihde's research vision and research methods have brought certain limitations.His theory of technological intentionality is one-way and externalistic.Breakthroughs to its limitations mainly require further clarification of the concept of “technology”.Connotation,looking for a more reasonable theoretical basis,and launching research on intelligent artifacts within the existing theoretical framework.
