Research On Ziegmont Baumann’s Philosophy Of Technology

The 20 th century is an era full of cultural crisis and cultural anxiety.It is an era of criticism around modernity.Among them,the criticism of technological rationality has become the core of various cultural criticism themes.Due to the rapid development of science and technology,technological rationality has developed rapidly in the west,and reached the highest point in this period.Although in other historical periods,rational civilization is developing in different ways and at different speeds,and it also shows some problems,but it has never been as obvious and prominent as the 20 th century.If the labor alienation put forward by Marx in the 19 th century reveals the exploitation and oppression of the working class by capital at that time,then the alienation of technological rationality in the 20 th century reveals the general lack of morality.In this period,scientific and technological achievements have become tools used by immoral forces to do evil,and even become tools and means of massacre.This paper first analyzes and expounds the realistic and theoretical context in which Baumann’s philosophy of technology emerges.It can be said that Bauman’s philosophy of technology was put forward on the basis of inheriting Marx’s humanitarianism,existentialism and other ethics under the stimulation of the modern civilization crisis highlighted by the Second World War and the Jewish Holocaust movement.Baumann’s philosophy of technology is fundamentally a kind of modernity thought and a kind of humanitarian thought.Secondly,it explains the main contents of Bauman’s philosophy of technology,including his criticism of modern technological rationality and his thinking on the road of technological salvation in the post-modern environment.On the whole,Baumann criticizes not reason itself,but the abuse of reason.In his view,if modernity wants to move towards the future,it must humanize technology,that is,moralize technology.At last,the paper makes a critical analysis of the theoretical contribution and limitations of Baumann’s philosophy of technology.Bauman’s philosophy of technology criticizes modern technological rationality radically,and reveals the mechanism of modern civilization profoundly.However,his thought of technology moralization has great problems.Nevertheless,Baumann’s philosophy of technology provides a new perspective for us to reexamine the development of modern technology.
