Due to the change of water depth, existence of terrain, obstacles, bottom friction and other factors, complex phenomena such as wave refraction, reflection, diffraction and breaking will occur in the processing of propagation near the shore, and the resulting impact pressure will cause damage to the crown seawall. Therefore, wave is one of the main factors to be considered in the planning and design of offshore structures. In present work, the numerical wave flume model and the arc crown seawall model were established by combining the computational fluid dynamics software Open FOAM and the finite element software ABAQUS to study the wave propagation, loads and the response of the arc crown seawall.Main findings and conclusions are summarized as follows:(1)Open FOAM was used to establish a two-dimensional numerical wave flume.Regular waves and cnoidal wave propagating over a submerged bar and terrain were simulated and coreponding numerical results have been compared with the experimental data and those based on Boussinesq equations.Satisfying agreements have been achieved between present results and published data.It is shown that the numerical wave flume based on Open FOAM can simulate wave propagations above submerged bar and terrain accurately.(2)Pressure and total loads on the arc crown with different radius are predicted numerically under various wave conditions.Coresponding results are compared with experimental data, which has confirmed that Open FOAM can predict the wave load accurately. The wave pressure on the surface of the arc crown seawall decreased nonlinearly with the increase of the arc radius and the heights of the measuring point. The wave loads predccted by the proper turbulence model are closer to the experimental data than those of the laminar model.(3)Wave loads on the arc crown seawall obtained by Open FOAM can be imported into ABAQUS by Python scripts to analyze the response of arc crown seawall.Furthermore, geometries of curved crown seawall can be optimized according to the stress distribution.
