Purpose:Blood flow restriction training combined with aerobic exercise has a positive effect on the improvement of aerobic capacity.Talk Test is a simple, convenient and effective method to judge exercise intensity.Whether Talk Test can be applied to blood flow restriction aerobic exercise depend on the reliability and validity of talk test with blood flow restriction. The purpose of this study was 1)to investigate the retest reliability of talk test in aerobic exercise with blood flow restriction of male college students and 2)to explore the validity of talk test in predicting ventilatory threshold(VT)and respiratory compensation threshold(RCT)college student in aerobic exercise with blood flow restriction of male college students. Methods:Twenty collegiate males participated 4 tests, include one maximum oxygen uptake test(Tmax)and three incremental exercise tests. The protocol of the Tmaxtest equipped blood flow restriction devices. The protocol of the three incremental exercise tests were the same, each test equipped blood flow restriction devices, one equipped a gas metabolizer(TT-gas)throughout the whole test process, and the other two following the standard procedure(TT-standard).In Tmax, the VO2max,VT and RCT were examined. In TT-standard,the corresponding heart rate(HR)and rating of perceived exertion(RPE)of the last positive stage(LP),equivocal state(EQ)and negative stage(NEG)were examined. In TT-gas,the corresponding oxygen uptake(VO2),HR and RPE of all steps were examined. All the four tests were fully pressurized along the bandages on both thighs(40%arterial occlusion pressure,AOP).Repeated measures ANOVA was be used to compare the power,HR,VO2and RPE at VT and RCT measured by Tmaxand LP,EQ,and NEG measured by TT-standard.Results:The reliability of corresponding power of LP and NEG measured by two TT-standard was high(ICC:0.70,0.78).The reliability of corresponding HR of LP,EQ and NEG is high to very high(ICC:0.83,0.79,0.85).However,the reliability of corresponding RPE of LP,EQ and NEG is low to medium(ICC:0.60,0.21,0.42).The correlation between corresponding VO2,HR and RPE of LP and VT was medium to high(r=0.48-0.66,P<0.05).The correlation between corresponding VO2,HR and RPE of EQ and VT is high to very high(r=0.54-0.70,P<0.05).The correlations between corresponding VO2,HR and RPE of NEG and VT were medium(r=0.36,P>0.05),very high(r=0.40,P>0.01)and high(r=0.52,P<0.05),respectively.Except for corresponding HR of LP,there is no significant difference between corresponding VO2,HR,RPE of LP,EQ and those of VT(P>0.005).Except for the corresponding RPE,there was no significant difference between NEG and RCT(P>0.005).Conclusions:Talk test has high retest reliability and medium to high validity in male collegiate students during blood flow restriction training aerobic exercise, which combine LP and EQ can effectively evaluate the intensity of VT,but can not effectively evaluate the intensity of RCT.Talk test can be a convenient and reliable option for monitoring low intensity during blood flow restriction aerobic exercise.
