Research On Knowledge Generation Of Scientific Understanding

The topic of contemporary philosophy of science is undergoing a great change from "explanation" to "understanding".In recent years,the frequent philosophical conferences with "scientific understanding" as the key word and a large number of papers with "understanding" as the core word have specifically illustrated this point.Based on the current situation in the research of scientific understanding,this paper holds that in the further study of scientific understanding and its related topics,it is paying attention to the relationship between scientific understanding and knowledge as well as the knowledge generation of scientific understanding that play an important role in elaborating science and understanding the essence.First of all,as far as the current academic circles are concerned,there is a controversy about whether the problem of scientific understanding developed from the problem of scientific explanation has more research value.Up to now,some scholars still insist on the Hempel's view that it is not necessary to pay attention to scientific understanding,but to pay attention to scientific explanation,because the latter is the legitimate topic of philosophy of science because of its objectivity,while the understanding problems which are simply judged as relativism and psychologism should be excluded.Some philosophers of science think that the problem of scientific understanding is equivalent to the classic problem of human rational ability in the history of philosophy,which is an old problem that philosophers have long been clear about and need not continue to explore.As an unavoidable topic in the field of philosophy of science,this kind of argument needs to be faced squarely and solved.Secondly,the study of philosophy of science should reflect on scientific activities.As far as the goal of science is concerned,it is to explain,understand,predict and control the world,as Nagel said.In order to achieve the goal of science perfectly,it is important to obtain the understanding of the world and the knowledge from it.What is the essence of scientific understanding among them? What is the relationship between it and people's cognitive ability as well as the contemporary expression of knowledge?These all need to be discussed in a deeper level.To clarify the relationship and function between "understanding" and "knowledge" in scientific activities is to grasp the key of scientific activities in a sense,which is beneficial to carrying out scientific activities and promoting the development of science.On the research and attention to this problem,this paper focuses on“the manipulation theory” of scientific understanding.Specifically,this paper mainly discusses it from three aspects.Firstly,having reviewed the history of "understanding" as a philosophical topic,this paper distinguishes scientific understanding from traditional understanding,and tries to get inspiration from it.The development from scientific explanation to scientific understanding is a response to the controversy and doubt about whether the scientific understanding is considered to be legal in the study of philosophical science.Secondly,from the perspective of manipulation theory,this paper clarifies the essence of scientific understanding,and defines scientific understanding as human cognitive ability,which enables people to manipulate and use the objects of knowledge to deal with problems in different situations.The state of understanding can be changed in people's life and experience,and it can be represented in people's psychology.Generally speaking,understanding is an application of knowledge.Thirdly,applying the viewpoint of scientific understanding from the perspective of manipulation theory to scientific research and education activities fully shows the value and significance of knowledge generation of scientific understanding,which provides some reasonable opinions and suggestions for the development of related work in this field.
