In this paper,the preparation process and properties of high solids hydroxy acrylic resin were investigated.High solids hydroxy acrylic resin was yield using glycidyl ester of versatic acid(Shivena-9),styrene(St),hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA),methyl methacrylate(MMA),butyl acrylate(BA)acrylic acid(AA)as main monomers,di-tert-pentyl peroxide(DTAP)as an initiator,mercaptoethanol(ME)as a chain transfer agent,xylene as solvent by free radical polymerization and semi-continuous solution polymerization process.The effects of functional monomer such as dodecafluoroheptyl methacrylate(MBFA-12)and vinyltriethoxysilane(VTEO)on the properties of hydroxy acrylic resin were investigated.Two-component polyurethane were obtained by reaction between hydroxy acrylic resin and IPDI trimer.The preparation and properties of polyurethane films were detailedly studied.Finally,a two-component polyurethane coating film with good adhesion,good salt and water resistance was obtained.The effect of the amount of ME,DTAP,Shivena-9 and functional monomers MBFA-12 and VTEO on the properties of resin and polyurethane films were studied.The polyurethane films were characterized by fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR),thermogravimetric analyzer(TGA),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and contact angle tester.The results show that resins with low viscosity narrow molecular weight distribution are obtained when the amount of DTAP and ME is 4% and 2% respectively.The thermal decomposition temperature(Td5)(the quality loss of the polyurethane coating film was 5%)was gradually increased with the increase in the amount of Shivena-9 from20% to 30%.Increasing the amount of MBFA-12 can significantly reduce the viscosity of the resin,but it will affect the conversion of the monomers.When the amount of MBFA-12 is increased from 0% to 15%,the contact angle of the two-component polyurethane coating film and Td5 are increased with the coating film better acid and alkali resistance.On the basis of 9% of MBFA-12,the introduction of VTEO can significantly increase the contact angle of the polyurethane coating film.Finally,a hydroxy acrylic resin with a solid content of 90% is obtained,which satisfies the requirement of reducing the volatile organic compound(VOC)of the coating.The obtained two-component polyurethane film has good adhesion,salt water resistance and comprehensive performance,which can meet the requirements of automotive refinish paint.
