With the continual economic crisis,China's iron and steel industry has entered the era of low or no profits, and the major steel producers have shifted their focus from production to the quality.Six Sigma is a kind of advanced quality management theory, which is widely used in the steel industry. For many years, there is a certain gap between T company and other advanced company in hot rolling product quality, which has become a bottleneck to restrict the development of this company, and it is imperative to solve the problem of product quality. In this paper, hot rolling steel stainless steel was analyzed through the method of DMAIC.Firstly, hot rolling production line equipment and production process were introduced, the key issues affecting the quality of hot-rolling stainless steel was found in the definition phase, and stainless steel edge defect was defined in this study; Then,in the measurement stage, causal diagram, causal matrix and process failure mode were used to analyze the reasons of effecting the problem, and some problems were quickly improved in this stage.Especially the vertical roll shape was redesigned, and the data collection plan was made and measurement system was analyzed;Through the statistical test analyzing potential root causes in the analysis stage, the key influence factors were found, and the goal of regression was made;In the improvement stage, the improvement of the project was made by full factorial experimental design, and regression analysis and optimization were made. The defect width of stainless steel was decreased by improvement, and got a set of reasonable optimization parameters. Finally, based on the results, some measures were taken to make the results solidification and standardization.
