A Research Of Children’s Costume In Song Dynasty

Very few children’s costume in Chinese traditional costume research,even there are much male and female.In an ancient China,there is a strict distinction between adults and children through costume.And there are specialized design and production for children.Children’s costume is not just a scale-down of adult,however,children have their own costume culture.This thesis attempts to return to the Song Dynasty and do a research about children costume.And I will use the methodology of material culture and social life history that put together with literature,pictures and materials to discuss ordinary apparel of children in their daily life,then focusing on why,how and what children does wear.It is maybe somewhat similar to our current life,not very strange.In the first chapter ‘medical treatment and health’,I mainly focus on the clothing physical function and explore how clothing protect children’s body from the perspective of medicine.Focusing on distinctive clothing,and exploring children’s costume in different festivals,occasions and groups,in chapter 2 ‘festivals and customs’ and chapter 3 ‘dance drama and sports entertainment’,and then through playing games,children consciously imitate the clothing of adults and know how to dress is properly.In the last chapter ‘education and discipline’ focusing on the social function of clothing,and exploring the important influence in children’s clothing behavior from both family and society.
