Objective: The purpose of this study is to provide a scientific basis for reducing the sugar content of pre-packaged beverages and issuing relevant policies by understanding the sugar content and labeling of pre-packaged beverages in Beijing and Shijiazhuang. Methods: Using Food Prophet mini program, the information of prepackaged food sold in Beijing and Shijiazhuang was collected from 2015 to 2016.The brand, nutrition composition table, ingredient table and other information were collected, and the collected information was entered into the prepackaged food label information database. The sugar content of all kinds of beverages was counted, the median and quartile spacing were obtained, and the proportion of sugar-free,low-sugar and high-sugar beverages and their sugar content marking rate were calculated. In this study, the data were statistically analyzed by SPSS21.0 software.Kruskal-Wallis H test was used to analyze the differences of sugar content in different kinds of beverages.Chi-Square test was used to compare the sugar content labeling rates of high-sugar,low-sugar and non-sugar drinks.P<0.05 was considered as the significant difference, and P<0.01 was considered as the difference highly significant,Results: A total of 11 categories of 3545 beverage samples were collected in Beijing and Shijiazhuang(3 of which were packaged drinking water). As the packaged drinking water did not contain sugar, the data used for analysis were 3542.13.4% of the beverage samples were labeled with sugar content, and the labeling rate of sugar content among different beverage categories was statistically significant(P < 0.01).49.9% of carbonated drinks were labeled with sugar content, which was the highest rate.Only 2.2 percent of protein drinks had the lowest sugar labeling rate.In the nutrition label of beverage, the minimum value of sugar content is 0g/100 ml,the maximum value is 99.0g/100 g,and the median value of sugar content is 11.0g/100 ml.According to the classification and analysis of the beverages according to the sugar content, there was a statistically significant difference in the labeling rate of sugar among different categories(P < 0.01).45.9% of the samples were high sugar beverages, and only 6.0% of the samples were high sugar beverages. In the sample, the proportion of sugar-free and low-sugar drinks was low,and sugar-free drinks accounted for only 3.2%.The highest labeling rate was found in 63.4 percent of diet drinks with sugar content. Conclusions: The labeling rate of sugar content in pre-packaged beverages in Beijing and Shijiazhuang was relatively low, only 13.4%.Considering the harm to human body caused by excessive intake of sugar,it is suggested that more beverage manufacturers should label the sugar content, and that relevant government departments should take measures such as levying taxes according to the foreign management of high-sugar drinks.
