As the"king of fireproof insulation materials,"Phenolic Foam is favored by construction,transportation,chemical,and other industries.Its flame-retardant,low smoke and non-toxic,insulating,no dripping,and other characteristics make it should be more valuable to use.However,its brittle,easy to crush characteristics seriously limit the practical application.Therefore,this paper selects terephthalyl alcohol and tannin as the compound modifier of Phenolic Foam based on years of laboratory research to improve the mechanical properties of the foam,as well as its thermal insulation and flame retardant ability,so that it can be used in a wider range of applications.In this paper,the improvement of the mechanical properties of Phenolic Foam was investigated,using modifier terephthalyl alcohol with different groups and tannins for foam modification experiments.Under certain experimental conditions,the two modifiers were chemically reacted with phenol and formaldehyde in certain amounts.Then the two were mixed and subjected to the chemical reaction of addition followed by condensation at different temperatures to produce the modified phenolic resin.After following the foaming process of Phenolic Foam,the modified Phenolic Foam was obtained.This modification reduces the degree of cross-linking of Phenolic Foam and increases the toughness of the foam.An infrared analysis study of the modified phenolic resin was determined the successful incorporation of modifier into the phenolic resin system.The tannin Phenolic Foam with different tannin additions was prepared by single-factor experiments with a fixed catalyst dosage of 20m L,2g of active agent,10g of foaming agent,and 4g of complex acid.It was found that the best foam properties were obtained when the tannin addition was 15%of the phenol mass.The amount of terephthalyl alcohol was changed on the basis of tannin Phenolic Foam,and the experimental results showed that when the amount of terephthalyl alcohol added was 10%of the mass of phenol,the mechanical properties,and thermal insulation and flame retardant properties of the modified foam were obtained to the best.Its pulverization rate was 2.4%,impact strength test was 3.51k J/m~2,compression strength was 0.022MPa by universal testing machine,and thermal insulation and flame retardant performance LOI was 49%by using ultimate oxygen index meter.Compared with tannic Phenolic Foam,it is5%,2.28k J/m~2,0.006MPa,and 9.2%higher,respectively.It can be seen that the mechanical properties of the modified Phenolic Foam were significantly improved.The modified phenolic resin foam formed a complex mesh structure with increased spatial potential resistance,which made the modified phenolic resin structurally stable and less susceptible to damage after curing,with improved heat resistance and enhanced flame retardant aspects.In the experiment,the structure and distribution of the bubble pores were not damaged by the comparative observation of Phenolic Foam by using SEM.
