Through the “Belt and Road” initiative,China has shared the accumulated experience, funds and technology of economic development since the reform and opening up to the countries along the route. It is committed to jointly investing in projects,co-building infrastructure and sharing the results of cooperation. However, there are also very few countries that use“low-carbon” The “brand” boycotted the “Belt and Road” initiative. For example, the China-Myanmar Kyaukpyu-Kunming railway project was strongly opposed by local residents on the grounds of carbon pollution. The Port City of Colombo was also shelved due to environmental issues and requested a reassessment. In order to promote the smooth implementation of the “Belt and Road” initiative,it is urgent to find out whether China’s OFDI will affect the carbon emissions of countries along the route? What are the factors that affect the carbon emissions of the “Belt and Road” countries? Will the implementation of the "Belt and Road" policy affect China’s investment and carbon emissions from the countries along the route? Therefore, the research on the impact of China’s OFDI on the carbon emissions of countries along the “Belt and Road” has important theoretical and practical significance. In order to explore the impact of China’s foreign direct investment on the carbon emissions of the regions along the route, the logical framework of this paper mainly has six parts. The first part is an introduction, which mainly introduces the research background, research significance, research methods, research content and innovation of this article. The second part is a literature review.By sorting out, summarizing, and reviewing the existing research results, the hotspots and key points of the relevant research are clarified, and then the subject matter to be studied in this article is derived. The third part is the status quo analysis, the status of China’s investment in countries along the route and its impact on carbon emissions. The fourth part is the theoretical analysis, analyzing the impact of investment on carbon emissions from the perspective of OFDI’s scale effect, structural effect and technological effect. The fifth part is empirical analysis, using panel regression model, interaction model, breakpoint regression model empirical results and found that(1)China OFDI suppresses per capita carbon emissions of countries along the route;(2)OFDI scale effect promotes per capita carbon emissions, structural effects technological effects suppress carbon emissions per capita;(3)China’s “Belt and Road” initiative not only promotes China’s investment in areas along the route, but also has the effect of reducing carbon emissions per capita along the route, and through dynamic panels, tool variables,TSLS,and systems GMM and other methods to test the robustness of the empirical results and enhance the persuasion. The sixth part is the main conclusions and policy recommendations. The governments along the route need to optimize the industrial structure and improve the industrial chain;accelerate the absorption of Chinese investment technology and strengthen independent innovation;and strengthen the in-depth cooperation of the ecological protection of countries along the route. |
