With the rapid development of economy and society,China is facing increasingly prominent problems of resources and environment. The coordinated development of population, resources and environment has become a weak link in economic development. The problem of social harmony and the contradiction between man and land have become increasingly prominent, which has a great impact on sustainable development.Coordinating the relationship between urban economic growth and eco-environmental protection and making urban development more sustainable is crucial to the protection of the natural environment and the well-being of people and society as a whole.Under the background of rapid economic development, the comprehensive calculation method proposed in this paper, based on Wackernagel, calculated the 30 provinces in China from 2005 to 2019,the ecological footprint and the per capita ecological footprint, and using linear tendency estimate put ah and standard deviation ellipse method such as per capita ecological footprint of the time and space differences are analyzed. Then, the spatio-temporal differences of different influencing factors of per capita ecological footprint were analyzed by spatio-temporal geographic weighted regression model(GTWR).The results show that:(1)the per capita ecological footprint of China’s provinces is on the rise as a whole, and the gap between provinces is gradually widening. The rise rate of per capita ecological footprint in the western region is relatively fast, while the rise rate of per capita ecological footprint in South China is relatively slow.Among them,Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has the fastest growth, from 5.37 hectares per person to 14.54 hectares per person, with a change range of 1.71% and an annual growth rate of 0.11%.(2)The standard deviation ellipse of per capita ecological footprint first evolved from the Northeast southwest spatial distribution pattern to the northwest southeast distribution pattern, and then changed to the Northeast southwest pattern. The average center showed a trend of changing to the northwest.(3)population size inhibited the per capita ecological footprint of each province as a whole during the study period, and energy consumption promoted the per capita ecological footprint of each province during the study period. The urbanization rate Regional GDP,per capita consumption expenditure of urban residents and per capita consumption expenditure of rural residents have both promoting and inhibiting effects on the per capita ecological footprint of each province.
