Citizen cultural buildings are a more important type of urban public buildings,a carrier of urban culture and an important place for citizens’ lives. With the intensification of urbanization, cultural buildings with a single traditional function can no longer meet the needs of citizens for the cultural industry, and cultural buildings with multiple functions have been favored by the general public. However,it also brings many problems, such as: the architecture blindly pursues the innovative modeling, the scale is too large, and it has lost the characteristics of building citizenship; There is no effective connection between the various venues of the building, and it cannot form a whole; The disconnection between architecture and urban space, resulting in the fragmentation of urban space, etc. The key to these problems is that the architecture ignores the importance of the footpath system, the footpath space is a very important space system in the civil cultural architecture. It is the connection of the group structure relationship between the buildings and the link of the integrated development of the buildings and the city.It is precisely because of its importance to the city and architecture that it is often ignored,so this paper aims to summarize the design strategy of the walkway space in the civic cultural architecture and retrieve the civic attributes of the civic cultural architecture.First of all, this paper analyzes the current situation at home and abroad in the research scope, systematically expounds the basic theories of the footpath system and the related concepts of civil cultural architecture, and through the analysis of the relationship between the footpath space and the city and the building, puts forward the necessity of the integration of the City and the building and the importance of the civil nature. Thus,it analyzes the types of urban footpath space, extracts the spatial elements of footpath, and summarizes the footpath space form of civil cultural buildings by analogy. Then, according to the degree of openness of the city, the footpath space is divided into three levels:square space, pedestrian space and node space, and the relevant design strategies and practical design methods are summed up,which are demonstrated with relevant examples. Finally, through the analysis of the case study and the actual project I participated in,the feasibility of the design strategy is further proved. This paper hopes that through the study of the pedestrian space of civil cultural buildings,we can design an activity place that is in line with the daily life of citizens, and adapt to the needs of the coordinated development of urban space and architectural space in the process of urbanization. At the same time,it is also eager to pay attention to the design of footpath space in the future civil cultural architecture design to reflect the citizenship of civil cultural architecture.
