In order to comprehensively improve the performance of asphalt pavement,composite modified asphalt technology was developed and popularized.European rock asphalt(ERA),produced in the Balkans,is often used as a natural asphalt modifier to be mixed into petroleum asphalt due to its stable nature,rich reserves and good compatibility with asphalt.It can not only improve the properties of asphalt pavement at high temperature,but also improve its resistance to water damage.However,ERA can significantly reduce the low-temperature property of asphalt pavement after adding into base asphalt,which greatly limits the application of ERA.Waste cooking oil(WCO)were added into petroleum asphalt to siginifcantly increase the characters of asphalt under the condition of low temperature due to its high content of light components such as fatty acids and realize the effective use of waste resources,with good economic benefits.In view of the different features of ERA and WCO in modified asphalt,this paper proposes to combine ERA and WCO to give full play to the advantages of both,and to obtain composite modified asphalt with excellent comprehensive performance.The main research content is as follows:Firstly,the conventional properties,rheological performance,anti-aging properties and storage stability of ERA/WCO composite modified asphalt were studied.The experimental results reveal that WCO can effectively remedy the shortage of ERA in anti-cracking properties of asphalt at low temperature and significantly improve the low-temperature crack resistance of asphalt materials,and enhance the fatigue performance of asphalt in the medium-temperature zone.After the composite modification of ERA and WCO,the temperature sensitivity and anti-aging properties of asphalt were significantly enhanced.ERA/WCO composite modified asphalt has good storage stability.Considering the modification effect and economic benefit of ERA and WCO,it is suggested that the dosage of ERA and WCO should not be higher than 18% and 4% respectively.Secondly,Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer was used to analyze the changes of characteristic functional groups and thier chemical constitution of ERA,WCO and basa asphalt before and after ERA/WCO composite modification.The results reveal that ERA has similar chemical composition.WCO is mainly composed of unsaturated alkanes,carboxylic acids and fatty acids.During the mixing process of ERA,WCO and base asphalt,not only chemical reaction but also physical mixing occurred.Finally,take 70# base asphalt mixture as the reference,four groups of ERA/WCO composite modified asphalt with better performance were selected as the performance evaluation test group of asphalt mixture.The high temperature stability,low temperature anti-cracking properties,water-resisting properties and anti-aging properties of ERA/WCO composite modified asphalt mixture were studied.These emperimental results reveal that the suitable ERA and WCO content can improve the combination properties of asphalt mixture.Considering the high and low temperature properties,water stability,aging resistance and economic benefits,4%WCO+18%ERA is the optimal mixture scheme of asphalt mixture in this study.
