With the emergence of emerging technologies such as 5G,artificial intelligence and new energy,the traditional market and technological foundation have been damaged,which means that even emerging enterprises can’t cope with the discontinuity of technology and market by upgrading their own core technologies.In practice,only a few enterprises can adapt to the speed of technological change and become industry giants.More companies like Nokia and Kodak gradually disappear from people’s sight because they cannot keep up with the speed of technological and marketing change.In this context,the purpose of this paper is to study how emerging enterprises build dynamic capabilities to achieve rapid growth while adapting to the environment.It can be found from the literature review of dynamic capabilities that dynamic capabilities are generally recognized as the source of sustained competitive advantage,and the research focus has shifted from the results of dynamic capabilities to the construction and evolution of dynamic capabilities.From the perspective of resources,some scholars have proposed that the social capital,resources and resource integration are the basis of dynamic capabilities construction and evolution.However,the existing researches seldom focus on the impact of resource structure on the dynamic capabilities of emerging enterprises from the perspective of process.Therefore,this paper introduces the perspective of resource orchestration,adopts a dual case study and takes two emerging power battery enterprises as research objects,which aiming to further explain how complementary assets affect dynamic capabilities through resource orchestration in the process of enterprise growth.The research finds that: in each stage of enterprise development,the complementary asset structure evolves continuously,the complementarity increases first and then stabilizes while the mobility gradually increases.Moreover,the complementary assets affect dynamic capabilities through different resource choreography actions,and the enterprises are in different stages of technological change,so the emerging enterprises in the establishment stage will choose different resource orchestration actions.For an emerging enterprise founded in the technology trigger stage,the process of dynamic capability influenced by complementary assets during the establishment stage is as follows: complementarity-acquiring-incubating-innovation capability;For an emerging enterprise established in the initial optimization period,the process of dynamic capability influenced by complementary assets during the establishment period is as follows: complementarity-accessing-integration-innovation capability;In the initial stage,the process of the complementary assets influencing the dynamic capacity is as follows: complementarity and mobility-multiplying-configurating – adapt capability;The process of complementary assets influencing dynamic capability in the growth phase should be: mobility-connecting-coordinating-integration capability.Complementary assets influence the single dimension of dynamic capability through resource orchestration,and finally realize the improvement of the overall dimension of dynamic capabilities.This study not only research on the correlation between complementary assets and dynamic capabilities in theory,but also provides a reference for emerging enterprises to build dynamic capabilities in practice.
