Study On The Influential Factors Of Chinese Medical Devices Imports

As the global economy is flourishing and people’s living standards are improving constantly,people’s demand for health and medical care is also rising.Meanwhile,the rapid development of science and technology around the world also prompts the technology-capital-intensive medical device industry to make continuous progress.The fast expansion of the medical equipment market is showing robust growth momentum.With the gradual increase in the aging degree,China is rapidly approaching an aging society.The large population base not only makes China have the second largest population in the world,but also the largest elderly population in the world.Furthermore,with the improvement of urbanization rate in China,people’s consumption level and the construction of urban supporting infrastructure have been upgraded to a higher level.These factors have increased China’s demand for medical and health-related facilities and equipment,making China a huge medical consumer market and a target market for global medical device manufacturers.In this paper,based on the relevant researches of previous scholars on influencing factors of import trade,through the analysis of the current situation of the international and Chinese medical device industry,a series of viewpoints are proposed as follows:The global medical device market has huge potential,and European and American medical device companies have absolute advantages,while China has the characteristics of relying on imports of high-end medical devices and low added value of domestic medical device products;In addition,problems such as small scale,non-standard operation and lack of core technology are pointed out in China’s medical device industry.Next,by qualitative analysis of the relevant factors that may affect the import of medical devices in China,these factors are pointed out in this paper,which can be roughly divided into three aspects: Domestic influencing factors(such as GDP,level of national income,urbanization rate,degree of aging,etc.),international influencing factors(such as customs duty rate,exchange rate,level of medical device industry in exporting countries)and other influencing factors(such as types of medical apparatus and instruments,epidemic situation,etc.).Then,in this paper,through an empirical analysis of the imports and data of relevant influencing factors of China’s provincial medical devices from 2002 to 2019,the following conclusion is drawn,that is,the import amount of medical devices in each province is positively correlated with the average GDP level,urbanization level of each province.Finally,aiming at the development of the medical device industry in China,correlative suggestions are proposed,including adjustment of the industrial structure,promotion of domestic demand,active improvement of relevant domestic laws and regulations,the realization of trade diversification,reasonable control of the RMB exchange rate,the expansion of the import of medical devices in China,reasonable response to trade frictions and so on.
