Whether the highway construction is successful or not largely depends on the design of highway route.The route is the framework for a highway,and the design of route is the basic element of highway construction.The route design relates to if the highway performs its functions properly and plays a required role in the highway network.It also affects the quality of the project design,the project investment scale,the project construction management and the operation of the project directly.Ultimately,it will take effect to the realization of the comprehensive function and investment efficiency of an entire highway project.The selection of a highway route scheme is a crucial work of the route design.It is a process of selecting route directions and locating the spatial position on a topographic map or on the ground.Highways are artificial structures in nature.The route of a highway is determined by topography,geology,ecology and other conditions.In the mean while,the highway plays counteractions against the nature.It will change the terrain and the ecology of nature more or less.Furthermore,the route will take significant influences on transport safety.This paper analyses the characteristics of highways in the mountainous areas and makes a comprehensive comparisons of the route schemes rely on Yi-Bai Highway in Kunming,Yunnan province.The main contents and conclusions are as follows:1.Analyzed the concepts,principles,steps and methods of the route scheme selection.2.Elaborated the backgrounds and general situations of project,the necessity and prerequisites of project construction,and presented the technical standards of the project based on the investigation and analysis of Yi-Bai Highway in Kunming,Yunnan province.3.Demonstrated the selection of starting and finishing point and main control points of the project,according to the relationships between the project and the region,highway network planning;and other natural geographical factors such as the topography,geomorphology,geological structure,hydrology and climate which affect the project;Based on the concept and principles of route selection of this project,formulated K,A,B,C,D five alternative route plans and Xundian connecting line L1,combined with the starting and finishing point and main control points of the project.K is the plan throughout the entire route,and A,B,C,D plans are local plans used to compare with plan K correspondingly.4.According to the requirements of highway network planning,regional economic development requirements,topographic and geological conditions,economical efficiency of project,controlling project construction conditions,traffic demands and other factors,and based on the principles of people oriented,safety,harmonious and sustainable development,this paper made deep comparative analysis between plan K and plan A,B,C,D through site investigations,comprehensive analysis and research.And finally got the conclusion of this project combining with the regional highway network planning,project function orientation and the scale of investment which plan K is the most recommended plan from all route schemes.
