Museums,as public institutions,undertake the repository of rich cultural heritage accumulated in different historical periods,and are also the primary channel to learn the culture of a country,a city or a region.At present,accompanied with the development of China’s cultural and creative industry,the nation attaches great importance to the cultural and creative industry of museums.The rise of cultural and creative industries has put forward new requirements for cultural inheritance and development.While emphasizing the inheritance and preservation of traditional cultural connotation,the design of culture-influenced creative products of museum also requires the integration of art design into innovative development,promotion and popularization,arouses public’s consuming awareness,and eventually builds a cultural and creative brand that encompass cultural characteristics to create high values.The Confucius Temple and the Imperial College,located on Guozijian Street in Beijing,China,is formerly the place where royal families of the Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties offered sacrifices to Confucius,besides,it was the highest administrative institution of educational function and the top institute in the traditional educational system.As the holy place of learning traditional Chinese culture in Beijing and to the extent of entire country,it carries huge cultural values.However,there is inadequacy in the design and development of its existing cultural and creative products.This dissertation takes the design of culture-influenced creative items of museum as the research body,uses the basic principles and approaches of semiotics as the guidance of design theory,integrating with the practical research body which is the Beijing Confucius Temple and the Imperial College,to probe into how cultural connotation of the museum,as the carrier of cultural and creative products,can be utilized for better visual expression and design application.Therefore,it further enhanced the cultural promotion,application and inheritance,which is also the main purpose of this dissertation.Based upon the theory of semiotics,this dissertation delves into the design of museum cultural-influenced creative products.Firstly,the author briefly explains definitions and theories related to semiotics,along with related concepts of museum cultural-influenced creative products.Moreover,explains the importance of symbols in cultural and creative design,and examines the compelling cases of museum cultural and creative products.Secondly,the author sorts out the cultural resources and cultural symbols from the Beijing Confucian Temple and the Imperial College through research and study,furthermore,analyzes and summarizes the present situation and design requirements of their cultural and creative products by combining consumer survey and SWOT analysis method to find design pain points.Additionally,it raises the principles and strategies of museum cultural and creative design in accordance with the theory of semiotics.And lastly,on the basis of actual practice,extracts the elements of cultural symbols from Beijing Confucius Temple and the Imperial College,and applies to the design practice of museum cultural and creative products in the name of“Fuziyouli”.Through the above research on discussing the development and design of museum cultural-influenced creative items,the author plans to design cultural and creative products for the Beijing Confucius Temple and the Imperial College that encompass cultural characteristics and integrates with respect to current trends,aiming to provide references for the design and development of museum’s cultural and creative products.
