The earliest existing examples of wood structure buildings in China are in the Mid-Tang Dynasty, and the number is very small, which poses a huge challenge to the research of architectural history. To a certain extent, this has caused a lack of research materials on ancient Chinese architecture. Not only in the overall research of the architectural system, but also in a certain type of architecture.Taking the research of the veranda and corridor building as an example,it can be found that this type of architectural history research is lacking. Most of the research on the veranda and corridor building in the architectural history is concentrated in a certain period, and the architectural information is not in sequence. Most of the research objects have a single form, and In the existing historical research, there has not yet been a staging of this type of architecture, nor has there been any relevant arguments. This paper mainly uses the reproduction of historical images such as Dunhuang Frescoes to obtain the visual understanding of the veranda and corridor building in different periods, attaches importance to the more and more obvious structural functions and symbolic features in frescoes in different periods, and explores the historical evolution process of this type of buildings. This article takes the veranda and corridor building of Dunhuang Frescoes as the research object, and summarizes the features of the veranda and corridor building in murals from the perspectives of function, space, form and components. On this basis, from the perspective of spatial interface, the interface elements that constitute the veranda and corridor building are selected, and the specific forms expressed by different interface elements of the veranda and corridor building are discussed,as well as the relationship between the appearance, disappearance and coexistence of each element is analyzed.Using archaeological research methods and relevant literature, this paper duplicates the important historical nodes of the veranda and corridor building from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Song Dynasty with the image resources of Dunhuang Frescoes, and divided several evolution processes of the veranda and corridor building. This paper finally completes the historical stages of the veranda and corridor building of Dunhuang Frescoes, and draws the following three conclusions: 1.The development and evolution of the Dunhuang Frescoes and the interface are closely related to the occurrence and development of interface elements;2.According to the analysis of interface elements, there are five historical stages from the Northern Wei Dynasty to the Song Dynasty;3.In terms of the characteristics of the veranda and corridor building of murals, the development of the veranda building slightly behind that of the veranda building, and the veranda building has the characteristics of layerism and outward expansion. The purpose of this paper is to further interpret the whole coherent image sequence of Dunhuang Frescoes, which can be used as the basis for the follow-up study of certain architectural types, such as tower, flat seat and many other mural architectural types, and make a new supplement to the basic theory and development of Chinese architectural history,so as to improve the research of architectural history.
