Identifying Key Players And Factors In The Promotion Of Off-site Construction In China Based On Social Network Analysis

Off-site construction plays a significant role in construction industry.It is already well-developed and widely used in many developed countries,for instance,more than90% of houses in Sweden are built by precast technology and the prefabrication level has reached 80%.However,it has not been widely used until now since it was introduced to China in 1950.Nowadays,with the rapid development of economy,China’s urbanization process has reached a new level The increase of population in urban has led to some problems in construction industry in China,such as the rapid increase of housing prices,the decrease in the number of migrant workers,and environmental protection and safety construction issues.The government put forward the application of prefabrication and showed great confidence in solving these existing problems.Even though China has made great efforts in improving the application of off-site construction,there still are some problems which will hinder its promotion.Now,many research on prefabricated construction focuses on basic technology and index evaluation,and has has neglected to recognize the importance of the participants to promotion of prefabricated buildings.In order to improve the promotion of off-site construction in China,this thesis explores the key players through social network analysis.17 experts participated in an interview survey which is conducted in this research for establishing the player-factor relationship network.The key players are government,contractor,manufacturer,designer and research institution.Measures that these players can take are also given by experts,and these suggestions will be of great help in promoting the application of off-construction.
