The Application Of Narrative Space In The Design Of Small Funeral Home

In addition to meeting the objective functional needs,architectural space also has the narrative nature of transmitting information in the dimension of time and space,that is,as a medium,it translates the background story and spatial plot carried by it into the perceptual feelings of the experiencer,and then stimulates the emotional feedback of the experiencer.The extended design strategy based on narrative space is widely used in various memorial buildings.As a special type of public building,funeral home provides a place for the dead to rest and for the living to mourn.Can its space also have such narrative features: allowing the relatives and friends of the dead to ease their emotions,feel the death,and face up to the specific stage of the law of life? However,due to the limitations of design concept and environmental conditions,most of the practical works of contemporary small funeral homes in China are used as single functional urban service facilities.At the same time,the academic research on funeral home is still in the initial stage,focusing on the processing of its functional streamline,and the research on spatial narrative is relatively lacking.Therefore,based on the theoretical system of narratology,this paper explores the application of narrative space in small funeral parlors.Firstly,this paper verifies the theoretical basis of narrative space used in funeral architecture.Then,taking the time dimension of the development of funeral architecture as the clue,this paper explores the narrative origin and development process of funeral architecture,and then provides a reliable historical basis for the research through the narrative space design of traditional royal mausoleum.Then,under the background of funeral reform,it summarizes the development process of contemporary small funeral home,analyzes the current situation of contemporary small funeral home,and provides practical reference for research through the analysis of three excellent funeral home design practices.Finally,from three aspects of narrative space sequence,narrative scene and narrative elements,the author analyzes the Huoshan funeral home design in detail,and explores the feasibility of using narrative space in small funeral home from the perspective of practice,so as to provide some reference for the space design of contemporary funeral home.
