In recent years,the internet of vehicles has been proposed and is considered to be one of the important directions for the development of the car industry and transportation technology in the future.Full autonomous vehicles in the connected vehicles environment will completely liberate the driver from the “human-car-road-environment”,and the autonomous vehicles driving will no longer be restricted by human drivers’ characteristics of psychology and physiology.This will certainly bring about another revolution in road as well as traffic.If the existing design specification and technical standard still continue to be used for alignment design of expressway for autonomous vehicles highway,it will inevitably lead to inadaptability and mismatch between fully autonomous vehicles and the freeway which is constructed according to existing design specification and technical standard,and at the same time,it does not meet the economic requirements of engineering construction.How to guarantee the driving safety of autonomous vehicles while taking into account the project cost has become an urgent problem for construction of expressways in the future.Therefore,research on alignment design standard for freeway of autonomous vehicles under connected vehicles environment will help autonomous to be widely used in travel and life early,and at the same time provide technical support and application guarantee for the arrival of the autonomous driving era.the application scenarios and system architecture of connected vehicles are studies through the analysis of internet of vehicles,autonomous vehicles technology and related functions.Based on the information characteristics and information interaction modes of autonomous vehicles,the driving mechanism and driving characteristics of autonomous vehicles are researched in depth,By comparing as well as analyzing the traffic characteristics of vehicles in the traditional manual driving environment and the autonomous vehicles environment,combined with the factors affecting driving safety of the autonomous vehicles,the driving distance,psychology and physiology as well as stability requirement of autonomous vehicles on highways have been revealed.Taking the physiological characteristics of the driver as the starting point,based on the traffic characteristics of autonomous vehicles,the compatibility and applicability of current highway design indicators and control elements in the autonomous driving environment are deeply studied through the comparative analysis method.Through theoretical analysis and calculation,the driving distance,the design control elements of autonomous driving highway such as the design speed,design vehicle and stopping distance of highways for autonomous vehicles have been determined,the calculation parameter values of the alignment design index of freeway for autonomous vehicles are drawn up,and the recommended values of the horizontal,vertical and cross-sectional geometric design indexes that conform to the traffic characteristics of the autonomous vehicle are proposed.In the future,the research results will provide references for the formulation of relevant standards and specifications for autonomous driving highway in China.
