Urbanization is a multidimensional process that causes complex changes in the socioecological system, and the urban landscape is a typical reflection medium of such changes. Many current studies focus on socio-ecological theory, but there is a lack of empirical research on the quality of socio-ecological practice. The purpose of the article is to explore the gap between theory and practice through a case study of Islamabad city in Pakistan, the ekistics-based planning practice project. This research understands the Ekistics theory and its application by taking the case of Islamabad designed by the Greek architect and planner CA Doxiadis(based on the Ekistics sciences)as an example, empirical analysis by understanding its theoretical and practical interference;further,it tries exploring the contemporary challenges through empirical analysis, using remote sensing image and structural and nonstructural interview methods to explore the theory and practice of its social and ecological systems in the field of urban open spaces. On the one hand, the research explored how to adaptively understand the gap between theoretical research and its application from planning policies and design practices.the research also explored whether it is of practical significance to incorporate the landscape preferences of users and professionals into the evaluation of the social and ecological functions of the urban landscape and whether it helps to understand the gap between the theory and practice of the social ecosystem. This research followed an exploratory data analysis to acquire data relating to Islamabad.Quantitative spatial analysis methods validated the existing knowledge about the current state of land use and land cover changes with contemporary challenges in aspects of the socio-ecological perspective.Furthermore, the chosen methodology for investigating sites enabled the verification of theories through a detailed survey and inspection of different sites, elaborating users’ perceptions and preferences. The results of social surveys on both managerial and users’ levels provide deeper insights about resilient solutions for socio-ecological solutions with real-world practices.Based on research analysis and findings for sustainable landscape management in city the research further devised the framework for ekistics-based practice & research. In master plan of Islamabad, the planner has selected Man’s relationship with nature and society to be the basis which carries out a supporting role in future development. The study further includes the ecological status quo of the Islamabad city further it explored the ecological status quo &toughness pattern and formulated the recommendations strategies both on research & operational level for ekistics based urban green spaces. As the urban Green urban spaces contribute directly and indirectly to urban landscape resilience therefore, the expected resilience model with approaches and recommended strategies is suggested.Following the key objective of ekistics-based reformation of urban green spaces, this research is contributed into both discourse of theory & practice.the empirical analyses and sustainability prospects of the master plan of Islamabad identify the need for a framework that places increased focus on the expectations of users and the value enjoyed by them, their awareness, and their perception of socio-ecological uses.Further it is guided by conclusive policy framework including proposed policies and its relationship with landscape development. This study contributes to the development of an approach that helps in sustainable socioecological management of ekistics-based urban green spaces by integrating the elements of People, ecology & Management. In the current context of high-paced urbanization,it is imperative to find ways that contribute towards knowledge action gaps based on people, ecology, and governance. These efforts are necessary to maintain a reasonable balance between the different aspects of urban growth, particularly to address the challenges in rapidly expanding urban regions. The further extensions of this study proposed in the form of case studies of small urban green spaces with detail social and ecological surveys.
