Textual Criticism And Research Of Ancient Chinese Containers For Arrows

The invention of the bow and arrow is a significant landmark achievement in the evolutionary history of human civilization.Culture of bow and arrow is a part of Chinese traditional culture.As bow and arrow technology has been widely used in production and life,related supporting equipment has also emerged.Tools for installing arrows,such as quivers,are indispensable.Ancient Chinese containers for arrows have penetrated into politics,economy,etiquette,education,military,folklore,technology and many other aspects along with the bow and arrow,and have had a profound impact on the various ethnic groups in China.It can be said that ancient Chinese containers for arrows are also part of the Chinese archery tradition,but few people pay attention to them.This article takes the ancient Chinese containers for arrows as the research object,starts with a large number of original documents,and classifies and summarizes the ancient Chinese containers for arrows according to different classification standards,and then analyze and research these nouns.Combining image data and archeological objects,respectively,describe the specific shape,material,production process,function and performance of each kind of ancient Chinese containers for arrows,and try to clarify the origin,evolution and development of ancient Chinese containers for arrows and explore the cultural and historical connotations behind it.The main work is divided into four parts.The first part of this paper is the textual research on the ancient Chinese containers for arrows of the “Fu” type.The earliest and most important container for arrows in ancient China was “Fu”,and this character appeared frequently in the Oracle and Bronze Inscriptions of the Shang Dynasty.This chapter analyzes the origin and shape of the word “Fu”,and compares it with the words "Han" and "Yi" which are also containers for arrows,sorting out relevant literature,and revising the “Fu”restored by previous scholars to trace The origin,form,material,function and later evolution of“Fu”.The second part of this paper is the textual research on the ancient Chinese containers for arrows of the “Du” type.Among the previous studies on the containers for arrows in ancient China,the research on the origin of "Hulu" and the blending of its culture is the most common.Many scholars believe that Hulu originated from the Western Regions,but the research on its evolution and technical level is vague.This chapter hopes to compare Hu Lu and Du with the types,materials and functions on the basis of analyzing and summarizing the previous expositions and with the help of new data.Through the textual research and comparison of unearthed artifacts,image data and literature records of Du and Hulu,this chapter intends to clarify the relationship between Hulu and Du,and sort out the real source of Hulu.The third part of this paper is the textual research on the ancient Chinese containers for arrows of the “Gao” type.“Gao Jian” can also be called “Sa Dai”.They are actually the different names of the same container for arrows in different eras,and they are also one of the most practical containers for arrows of war.With the development of the age,the changes in war methods and the integration of different ethnic cultures,the changes of names reflect the development of things.At the same time,it tries to distinguish between the bow bag and the quiver referred to by “Gao” and “Jian” on the basis of combining archaeological objects,image data and handed down documents,and to explore the standardization process of “Gao Jian” in the Qing Dynasty.Then analyze the social and cultural factors behind it.The fourth part of this paper is the textual research on Other rare containers for arrows in ancient China.Although these containers for arrows have their own characteristics,they are rarely seen in Chinese literature and historical records.They include bamboo "Long" and "Ze",leather "Bu Cha",and "Lan" specially used for holding crossbow arrows.This chapter hopes to examine the shape,material,origin,and function of these rare containers for arrows by further collecting and sorting out relevant original documents and archaeological materials.and briefly outline the unignorable culture and historical connotation of these rare containers for arrows.The fifth part of this paper is the conclusion,which summarizes above classification of ancient Chinese containers for arrows and specific textual research on various types of containers for arrows,In ancient China,the containers for arrows held a very important position in wars.Together with the bow and arrow in ancient China,the weapon of the arrow has had a profound impact on the various ethnic groups in China in many ways.This is of great significance for exploring the connotation of traditional Chinese culture,supplementing traditional Chinese bow and arrow technology,naming and classification related archaeological unearthed results.It even made supplements and contributions to other researchs,it puts forward advocacy and suggestions to save this kind of traditional technology and knowledge that is on the verge of extinction to protect traditional Chinese culture.
