Biochar had the characteristics of high carbon content, high aromatization and high stability, making it a good material for improving and harnessing agricultural environment. This paper adopted the field contrast test(gray desert soil and aeolian sandy soil)to research the effect of different cotton carbon treatments(0%,1.5%,3.0%)on the properties of cotton growth, root and soil environment. The study clarified the effect of biochar application on root characteristics of cotton and soil environmental quality, and clarified the relationship between cotton stalk charcoal application and cotton root and soil properties, and provided application reference in the utilization of Xinjiang agricultural and forestry waste resources and soil environmental improvement and treatment. The results ere as follows:(1)Cotton stalk charcoal added increased the stem diameter, plant height, and above-ground biomass of the cotton in the grey desert soil, and promoted the growth of cotton and the yield of cotton significantly. The responses of cotton carbon to cotton roots with different diameters were different. With the increase of cotton stalk charcoal, the root length, root surface area and root volume of fine roots and coarse roots of cotton were all decreased.Cotton stalk charcoal increases the plant height and stem diameter of cotton, but NPK1.5BC treatment increases the cotton yield, while NPK3.0BC treatment reduced the aboveground underground biomass and yield of cotton in the aeolian soil.(2)With the increase of the amount of cotton stalk charcoal added, the content of hydrogen peroxide in the cotton root system was reduced in gray desert soil and in aeolian sand soil. With the increase of cotton stalk charcoal content, the malondialdehyde content in the grey desert soil showed a trend of first increase and then decrease. The content of IAA in cotton root decreased significantly with the increase of cotton stalk charcoal content(P<0.05).The content of malondialdehyde decreased with the increase of cotton stalk charcoal content, and the content of IAA in cotton root increased significantly(P<0.05)in the aeolian soil.(3)The addition of cotton stalk charcoal can increase the contents of alkali-hydrolyzable nitrogen and quick-acting phosphorus, and has little effect on the soil p H value in grey desert soil and aeolian sandy soil, but the content of available potassium reduced in the sandy soil.At the same time, the addition of cotton stalk charcoal increased the content of total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium in the grey desert soil, and reduced total nitrogen, total phosphorus and total potassium in the aeolian sandy soil.(4)With the increase of the amount of cotton stalk charcoal added, the number of bacteria in the gray desert soil increased, and the increase in NPK6.0BC treatment was most significant. The number of actinomycetes and fungi in the soil showed a decreasing trend. In aeolian sandy soil, the number of bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi in the soil decreased significantly with the increase in the amount of cotton stalk charcoal added, and the treatment with NPK3.0BC decreased more significantly.
