lilyturf as a kind of excellent shade-tolerant ground cover plant,has been used more and more in landscaping.It is favored in the construction of landscape because of its wide ecological adaptability,strong resistance,excellent greening effect and cost-effective economy.However,due to the lack of sufficient theoretical research,the interspecific differences of several species of ornamental lilyturf are not very clear.In this study,Liriope spicata,L.graminifolia,L.muscari var.variegata and L.spicata var.prolifera which are commonly used in northern garden of China were used as experimental materials.The leaf structure was observed by microscope,the photosynthetic properties were studied under different shading treatments,the growth characteristics were compared by morphological methods,and the phenology and garden application were studied by observation and investigation.The main results are as follows:1.The anatomical structure of leaves of the 4 kinds of lilyturf showed that the stomatas were relatively depressed in different degrees.With the deepening of shading,the stomata enlarged,and the density of stomata decreased.The spongy tissue of the 4 kinds of lilyturf developed well,and the palisade tissue is not typical or undifferentiated.Proper shading could promote the synthesis of photosynthetic pigments.The chlorophyll content of L.spicata and L.graminifolia were the maximum under 25%shading.The chlorophyll content of L.muscari var.variegata and L.spicata var.prolifera were the maximum under50%shading.The chlorophyll a/b ratios of the four kinds of lilyturf were between 1.76 and2.82,indicating that they had a strong ability to use weak light.Proper shading could increase the maximum net photosynthetic rate,light saturation point and light compensation point of the four kinds of lilyturf.The maximum net photosynthetic rate of L.spicata was 11.13μmol·m-2·s-1under 25%shading.The maximum net photosynthetic rate of L.graminifolia,L.muscari var.Variegata and L.spicata var.prolifera were6.15μmol·m-2·s-1,6.82μmol·m-2·s-1and 8.01μmol·m-2·s-1under 50%shading respectively.Photoinhibition of the 4 kinds of lilyturf occurred under strong light.The four kinds of lilyturf were subjected to a certain degree of light stress under full sunlight and heavy shading,and proper shading could improve the maximum photochemical efficiency and photosynthetic potential of PSII in different degrees.2.By comparing the growth characteristics of four kinds of lilyturf,it was found that the leaf morphology of L.spicata var.prolifera was the best and the average membership function was 0.71.The comprehensive evaluation of root morphology of L.spicata was the best and its average membership function was 0.87.The biomass of L.graminifolia was the smallest and its dry weight of the whole plant is 3.98g.The propagation coefficient of L.muscari var.variegata was the lowest and its number was 2.33.L.spicata and L.graminifolia grew fruits after flower.The fruit ratio of L.graminifolia was the highest,and the ratio was 30.00%.The flower color of L.muscari var.variegata was the most gorgeous,and its scape was the highest than the leaf surface,and the height was 14.04cm.But it didn’t grow fruit after flower.L.spicata var.prolifera didn’t grow fruit after flower,and there were small leaves or plants on the scape.3.The four kinds of lilyturf grow normally in Liaocheng.The green period of L.spicata was the longest,and it’s over 10 months.The flowering of L.muscari var.variegata was the longest,and it’s about 2 months.Both of L.spicata and L.graminifolia had 2-3 months fruit period.Both of them can form flower beds and flower borders.L.graminifolia,L.spicata var.prolifera and L.muscari var.variegata had strong shade tolerance,which could be used for indoor greening,under forest or north side of buildings.L.spicata and L.spicata var.prolifera had developed roots,which have the ecological function of leaving dust,fixing soil and protecting slopes.L.graminifolia had medium growth and could maintain the landscape for a long time Status.The four kinds of lilyturf could be used to match the landscape stones to set off and embellish the landscape.They could be used as the border of flower beds and borders and played a transitional role.
